The Landmark Hotels management team is supported by experienced professionals in various areas of expertise related to the financing, development and construction of hotels and resorts.
Shawn Sweeney oversees the management and direction of the operations and marketing of Landmark Hotels managed world class hotels & resorts, restaurants as well as tour and activity products.
Prior to his promotion to President in 2011, Shawn was Vice President of Operations and General Manager with specific responsibility for the makeover and repositioning of the 1800 acre Makena Beach & Golf Resort. He oversaw performance at The Kahala Hotel & Resort where the RevPar Index peaked at 120 while the Landmark-managed Embassy Suites in Mexico City performed at a plus 150 RevPar Index. At the Kea Lani Hotel, Resort & Spa, he was General Manager, leading it to become one of the most successful independent resorts in the Hawaiian Islands before its sale to Fairmont.
Shawn is a second generation hotelier who cut his teeth in the hospitality industry while still attending Santa Barbara City College's Hotel & Restaurant Management program. He honed his management skills at Cornell University’s prestigious Hotel General Manager Program. Management internship programs in top end hotel companies, including Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental, during the early years of his career gave him ground up experience and training in international hotel operations in Asia and Europe.
Shawn is the proud father of three daughters who share his passion for ocean & beachfront preservation.
Declan Mc Carthy has specific responsibility for the franchise partner and owner/lender relations, as well as product development and revenue generation. He joined the Landmark management team in executive management positions at Makena Beach & Golf Resort and was promoted to Vice President in 2016.
A graduate from the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology in Ireland, Declan began his career in food and beverage operational and leadership positions in prominent hotels in Europe, working in Paris, London and Dublin as well as in the eastern US. His last European assignment was in London.
In 1994 Declan relocated to Hawaii, where he joined Prince Hotels, first in Waikiki as Assistant Manager. He transferred to the Maui Prince Hotel in 1997 and rose through the ranks to become Director of Operations for the resort. In 2010, with the now renamed Makena Beach & Golf Resort under Landmark management, he was promoted to General Manager, overseeing the 310 room hotel, the Robert Trent Jones Makena Golf Course, Tennis Club and Beach Activities Center.
When he is not working, Declan enjoys spending time with his wife and active three sons, as well as hiking, paddle-boarding and biking. He is currently based in Maui where he is a member of a number of community and lodging industry associations. He has served as an active board member for the Boy Scouts of America Maui Council since 2016.
Glynis Esmail is responsible for the implementation of revenue, sales & marketing initiatives with the development of omni channel marketing covering travel and meeting trade channels, OTAs, direct consumer database, social media, and reputation management.
Glynis joined Landmark’s former affiliate brand, Crown Sterling Suites, in 1993 as Director of Marketing for its portfolio of 22 US hotels and Landmark’s Hawaii resorts. As director of Landmark's in-house advertising agency, she was retained by Fairmont Kea Lani & later, Fairmont Orchid Hawaii, for all advertising services. With the acquisition of The Kahala by Trinity, LM Advertising resigned The Fairmont Hawaii accounts to concentrate on repositioning The Kahala as an independent hotel with a new sales organization and creating wholesale, OTA, retail and group partnerships. She also directed the marketing and revenue management of the Embassy Suites Mexico City and Makena Beach & Golf Resort.
Glynis started her hospitality career in her native Hong Kong with Sheraton Hotels and was Assistant Director of Advertising & Public Relations for Sheraton's Pacific Division covering 10 hotels in 10 Asian & Australasian countries and Hawaii. She was pre-opening Director of Marketing for the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay, and was also marketing consultant to Kyo Ya Co., Ltd in Hawaii.
Glynis holds certification in Hotel Industry Analytics from the AHLA and membership with the Global Business Travel Association. She is also an active volunteer at a San Francisco Peninsula hospital.
Mike Wright has been involved in almost every major commercial and residential project on the island of Maui for more than two decades as a project and construction manager role. These include a number of hotels, both new build as well as renovation. Most notably he has worked on the Hyatt Regency Hotels on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii, the Royal Lahaina Resort renovation, a number of hotel condominiums and joining the Landmark and Trinity teams in the early stages of the Makena Beach & Golf Resort redevelopment.
Michael Wright & Associates, Inc. was established in 1997 as a Project and Construction Management firm assisting Owners and Developers with the planning and development of resort, hotel, commercial, residential and industrial real estate projects. MWA Inc.’s approach is to provide a comprehensive Project & Construction Management program that emphasizes the fundamentals of project management: scope, budget, schedule and quality control. Execution of these fundamentals is achieved through coordination of all Project requirements, close communications with Owner and Consultants, maintenance of all Project control documentation, and performance of all Project Management tasks including: estimating, budgeting, scheduling, contract administration and quality controls. By consistently applying the discipline of our Project and Construction Management program, a methodical and organized accounting of all of the Project's activities is achieved, allowing the Owner to fully understand the accurate status of the Project's scope, budget and schedule, at all times.
